COUNTDOWN : MORTALITY 2.0

The city has been at an uneasy peace the past few weeks.
It was too early to tell if this was going to continue. However people were still being warned to keep obeying the lockdown after sunset. Many businesses opened dormitories have opened more houses for those employees stuck working late. Only police, hospital and firemen units continue to operate at night for emergencies until furthur notice. The city seems to have returnd to normal.
And that's about when you come in. It's a strange time to be Awakened, but, lucky you, you're not alone.
You could all say it started with a strange icon that popped up on your phone that day. June 17th, 2017.

Did you press it right away out of curiosity? Did you press it accidentally trying to dismiss it? Or did you wait long enough for it to cover your entire screen, forcing you to interact with it? Either way, congratulations! You've got...a Terms of Service popping up in front of you?

Yes | Hell Yes | Man I Can'T Wait to See What this is About!
It really seems like you don't have much choice. After pressing one of the three buttons (one of them trailing off to the side of the screen), a new screen greets you.
21 DAYS REMAIN BEFORE AWAKENING
Welcome, welcome!! It's me, the guy you have no idea who it is. That's okay, cause you got a few of your friends coming in too. Anyway, bla bla bla, answer these questions, I'm not being all fancy this time, got it? Don't worry if the answer sounds 'bad'. After all, you're already hired!
Hey other guys that are already here, feel free to do this again if you're up to it. But what's the point? It's just going to make you answer honestly, you can't troll it (that's my job.) Just grab some popcorn and watch the insanity unfold.
Are they... acting like theyβve just hired you for a new job? (And really being impolite too)
The first (and only) question for today is:
You find yourself in a neighboring city where you find out that the guards have captured an individual who stole some apples from a king's apple orchards. For the sake of this morality lesson, let us say that the penalty in this city is death, and a very painful one because the king's into sadomasochism, I guess. This individual is a childhood friend. Also I guess its in the past since Kings don't have that power anymore. Hey, have you guys heard of something called the King's Game? Wait no, that can come later. Anyway, knowing all of this, what do you do? Please pick one of the following:
1) I stand up for them and propose to be their lawyer so that they get a fair trial. Do lawyers exist in the past? I guess you get to wear a wig!
2) I stand up for them and propose to be their lawyer so that they get a fair trial. I have no idea what being a lawyer could even be, but that way I can figure out a way to save them and give myself more time.
3) I stand up for them and propose to hire a lawyer so that they get a fair trial. Someone else can get a wig.
4) I let the city decide, as the law rules above everything else.
5) They shouldn't have let themselves be caught. It's their own fault and I just let it happen.
6) They bullied you as a kid despite being a friend and you're just happen to see them getting their just desserts. It's pretty great actually.
7) Society is unfair. I'm are already preparing to bust my friend out of the jail so they can escape. Probably with one of those catapults.
8) I visit jail that night and give them items so that they can escape but no one can pin it on me. The rest is up to them.
9) I show up that night in jail to kill them to save them from the future suffering from the death penalty.
10) I use my vast amounts of fortune / skills to put the blame on an innocent so that they can get out. Hey that other guy is a stranger, so itβs not my problem!
11) What do you mean I showed up in that city? I can barely find my way around this one. GPS didn't exist back then either.
12) I propose to exchange my life for theirs, then I try to bust myself out. Take that, corrupted justice system!
13) I go back home and wait for the town caller to tell me the news of their demise. This shit's gonna be good.
As you go to pick out an option...or try to exit out of it, you witness an all-too brief memory of a life you think isn't yours. A flash that makes you think you were hallucinating. Your head hurts, your heartbeat increases dramatically, and you can barely see anything ahead of you...
Wait, did you already pick something? You don't remember touching the screen, but something's already been highlighted and pressed for you. Staring at the 'saving' prompt, you would later find out it was a deeper memory from your heart. It might terrify you, what you've picked.
After that, the program displays nothing else for a few seconds before a chatroom (appleNET chat v.301.02) boots up, with a username already attached to your account and a little icon, either a sword or a ship steering wheel, next to it. More worryingly, your answer is the first thing posted from your name. Not even a hi or hello.
Well good thing no one has any idea who you are....right?
But don't worry...this time you're not quite alone.
[OOC: The memory should only last for a few seconds, but it would be something significant that would surprise them. It could even related to this question!
All mentions of their own name, profession or other clues that might reveal who they are would be changed to [INFORMATION LOCKED]. The only name they can refer to themselves by is their username, which is the name of the demon you chose for their Persona. 'Family members might be able to find each other via their writing habits, but for now that's the limit.
FOR PLAYERS ALREADY IN THE GAME: Your character is back to using only their demon name, and everything gets censored again. New posts started by your character also have the same effect and block out nearly everything. Don't worry, soon Luci will show you how to bend the rules a bit...
For the new players, welcome to the game, and have fun!]
β Marchosias
9: What's the point of blocking what we say if these censors will go away eventually?
βΈ Orias
maybe it just wants us to focus on whatever topic it puts up itself? but that's awfully boring...
β Marchosias
[Hmm. There's a lot more to look at here than those questions, now that Kouyuki thinks about it. There's whoever posted them, which is probably the one everyone calls Luci. The possible meaning behind the questions themselves. The countdown.
And then there's the usernames they've been given. Those are shared. Some more than others, but generally speaking, that's something they all have in common. And the symbols attached to the names, too. What do those mean? Why does he have a crossed pair of swords and Orias have a...what is that? A web? A snowflake? A wheel?]
9: I think we might not be asking the right questions.
βΈ Orias
[but does she want to? that's a question Emily's tossed over in her mind a few times already, and one she still doesn't have an answer to. the unnamed fear in her heart screams no, and yet she still finds herself poking at this network.
nothing but bad things were going to come from this, if her gut feeling was right. then why couldn't she bring herself to stop..?]
it's kind of tricky to know what angle to approach it from though, you know? there's so many missing pieces.
β Marchosias
9: You picked 12. I was trying to pick that, but my answer wound up 7...
[He's already thought to himself that 7 seems a more offensive answer, and 12 is more defensive in nature. Could that have anything to do with it? Was this revealing things about them that they weren't aware of? Or...was it all just a trick?]
9: So I've got swords and...no, that's not right.
9: There's other users who answered with 7 that got that snowflakewheelweb thing you have. So the symbols are probably related, but not in a way that's obvious.
9: Do you know anything about your username?
[He'd started out just wanting to play around, just like Emily, but now he can't keep from poking at everything. Asking what and why and who and when. Because he doesn't like being told he can't do something. He doesn't like restrictions. He feels an irresistible compulsion to prove them wrong.
Sure, he'll probably regret his actions. But he'd regret them more if he did nothing, he's certain of that.
And, well...how can he really say no to a game like this? It's a mystery that's practically begging to be solved, and a challenge he can't help but want to win the more he learns.]
βΈ Orias 1/2
did all the other marchosiases answer 7 too? i wasn't really paying attention when i answered, so i don't know how useful mine really is.
no subject
oh
it's a demon
β Marchosias
[And after a quick search prompted by curiosity...]
9: So is mine. It looks like they're both marquises of Hell.
9: There were no other Marchosiases this time, though. Not that I saw. All the ones talking on the app seem to be from the last 'round' and I don't know what answers they gave or even what question they were asked.
βΈ Orias
but it was already too late for all of that, wasn't it? there was no going back now. all she could do was hope she had the strength to withstand the consequences.]
i bet that's what all the names have in common. but why name people after demons?
could you ask? or - can we look at old posts on this thing ourselves?
β Marchosias
9: Or awakening.
9: Maybe this is some sort of cult?
9: Either way, I don't think the other app users can tell us much right now.
9: There might be clues on older posts, but I haven't looked yet. The app brought me right into this chat room and...I guess I didn't think to check with everything being said and not said.
βΈ Orias
[not a cult worth its salt, anyhow.]
i don't really know why anyone would go back looking through logs in a chatroom during their first time there, honestly. if we actually can, i doubt it's been done yet.
β Marchosias
9: That's a good point, though. In normal chat rooms there'd be no reason to even wanna look back.
9: But this isn't a normal chat room...
βΈ Orias
you're telling me! i don't think this is normal even for those real world games of pretend people play sometimes.
β Marchosias
[That's not an oxymoron, you're an oxymoron.]
9: Mm, you're right about that. Anyway, I'm gonna try and check...
[He's gone for a while before the next message comes, not because he found anything, but because he'd been so determined not to come back empty-handed. It was all for naught, of course. Either there's nothing to be found on the app, or the app doesn't want them to find anything.]
9: ...that was a bust.
9: Looks like it's just this chat room.
9: Which is weird because it's not new. Other people have been using it. Or so they said.
βΈ Orias
[who's she to deny someone believing in another person, even a demon? there was no harm in a little more optimism in this world - it was pretty cute, in fact.
his findings on the state of the app, however, are a bit more baffling. Emily can't help but chew on a fingernail as she mulls the new information over.]
i don't really see why so many people would be lying about something like that, so...
maybe it's the kind of chat where it doesn't save logs unless you do it manually? or we just don't have access yet, i guess.
β Marchosias
9: That's not very fun, but...I guess it makes sense.
[Or it would if it was implemented as incentive to make people want to use the service, but none of them were even given a chance to say no, were they? This is so weird.]
βΈ Orias
[it was always fun to earn little prizes for achieving something, after all. but somehow Emily can't imagine that anything here would be either easy or enjoyable...]
β Marchosias
9: But there doesn't seem to be any way to tell what those are. If there even are any.
